Note: There is a bike lane clean-up every second Saturday of the month. Just because you don't see it here doesn't mean it didn't happen. Follow us on socials for more timely details.
JANUARY 2026
Our January cleanup will be on Saturday the 10th from Noon to 2pm. Join us for a couple hours of cleaning glass and debris from the bike lanes on Classen Boulevard between NW 13th and NW 16th. We will meet in the parking lot of OnCue at 13th (there are also on-street spots nearby on 12th) just before noon and head out for a couple hours of sweeping! Please dress appropriately for a couple hours of light work in whatever weather comes our way. Things to bring: Brooms 🧹, water 💧, gloves 🧤. Can’t wait to see everyone there! If you plan on coming to help at any of our cleanups, we ask that you sign this waiver: https://www.thewheelsproject.org/volunteer/waiver.
DECEMBER 2025
Councilman Mark Stonecipher — a suburban councilor that doesn't live in or represent the urban core — will be introducing a ban on ALL new bike lanes on Classen Boulevard at the city council meeting on Tuesday, December 30th. This ban — which impacts the safety of bike riders in the urban core — would stop the completion of bike lanes that have already been started, have already been approved, have already been funded, and that would connect to other existing bike lanes.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Join us to speak out against the ban at city council on Tuesday, December 30th. Ride with us, or just meet us there by 8:30am, and sign up to comment on item IV B (Four B).
Call or email all city council members, the mayor, and the city manager (see below for contact information).
Share this newsletter and our social media posts! Let your friends and family, cyclists or otherwise, know we need their help to keep us safe by completing the Classen bike lanes!
We have dozens of signatures of local businesses in support of the Classen bike lanes. If you own a business and would like to show your support, send us an email at info@thewheelsproject.org.
RIDE WITH US TO COUNCIL
We're meeting at Sailor and The Dock at 617 West Sheridan at 7:50am on 12/30, and rolling out at 8:15am. It's a short bike ride to city hall, and we'd love to see you there.

DECEMBER 2025
Join us at Sailor and the Dock Tuesday December 16th at 9:00 AM for a ride to City Council to speak out against the effort to kill Classen bike lanes! Your city government needs to hear from YOU that these bike lanes are a needed improvement for Classen. These lanes are planned and funded, it’s time to build them and make our urban core safer to walk, bike, and drive. We hope that you join us in speaking up and we can’t wait to see you Tuesday morning.
Tips for speaking:
You will have 2 minutes to speak. Be polite and respectful, but speak your truth and explain how these lanes are important for you personally. Feel free to share experiences you have had cycling or walking in this city, good or bad, and how bike infrastructure has kept you safe or made your life better. If you don’t feel comfortable speaking off the cuff, feel free to write down what you would like to say ahead of time (and time yourself reading it to make sure you don’t go over time).
UPDATE
Pretty good turnout for such short notice. Thanks for coming!
Make sure to watch the city council meeting public comments starting around the 2-hour mark to see what people said about the bike lane.
UPDATE
Steve Lackmeyer did an article that sums up pretty well how the meeting went for a TLDR of that council video.
